I watched this series the moment it was released and I loved it right from its first chapter, so I rewatched it. It is based on the book written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables, which appears as an Easter Egg in Stranger Things as the story Jim Hopper reads to his daughter in the hospital.
The series starts when the redheaded Anne is adopted by two brothers, Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert, who live in the beautiful and quiet village of Avonlea, located in Prince Edward Island. The problem comes when she realises they wanted a boy instead of a girl. She comes from a nasty orphanage where everyone made fun of her and after being enraptured by the beauty of the landscapes and the nature she doesn't want to go back there. Anne is an incredibly imaginative and curious girl that's always looking for adventure. She's very warm and really hardworking and always willing to help everyone and she doesn't pay attention to social prejudices and traditional ethics: she's a revolutionary in 1896. The main plot is the life in the village and the development of the charachters. It treats many social issues that are relevant now as well, like feminism, racism, growing up...
It's a wonderful heart-warming series and that's one of the reasons why I recommend it. But also because you learn with the characters and the developing of the series allows to empathyse with the characters. It has amazing landscapes too and it's beautifuly done, not to mention Anne's charming personality and her character's development. I promise you will love it.
